Mother Tongue
If you loved True Biz, here is Sara Nović telling her own story. As a child she failed a school hearing test and told no one, holding on in the hearing world as long as she could. Later she found deaf community and American Sign Language, and now she’s raising two young sons, one hearing and one deaf, within the deaf world. The National Book Foundation notes the memoir also traces a history of discrimination against deaf and disabled communities in the United States. We’re drawn to it as a book about language, belonging, and parenting. A 2026 Nonfiction finalist.
