Your Presence Is a Danger to Your Life
This is a book of listening. Throughout 2024, the Syrian journalist Samar Yazbek met with hundreds of survivors from Gaza, many of them receiving medical treatment in Doha, and asked how their lives have changed since October 7, 2023. The title is adapted from a flyer dropped on Gaza residents minutes before a bombing, and the voices she gathered belong to ordinary civilians aged 13 to 65. Yazbek and translator Leri Price have been finalists together twice before. It won’t be an easy book, but we think it deserves room on the shelf. A Translated Literature finalist.
